This is one of those “every once in a while” recipes because its not exactly healthy. BUT it is probably the best recipe I have and is a total crowd-pleaser! Make this for your family, your significant other, a dinner party, seriously make it for everyone you know! It’s slightly similar to Mississippi Roast but not so greasy (yeah, I said it). Serve it on rolls and melt the cheese under the broiler and dig in!
*Note that i use less ingredients than my mom’s original recipe, both are amazing I’m just lazy! But my mom’s version has way more flavor and mom’s always know best!*
2.5lbs (or close to it) beef roast -I used shoulder
1 packet Onion Soup Mix
1 packet Zesty Italian dressing mix (found by ranch packets usually!)
1 Tsp Black Pepper
1 cup water if you want extra juice!
Below are the rest of the ingredients in the original recipe from my mom that i didn't add, lol)
1 Tsp Basil
1 Tsp Oregano
1/2 Tsp Red pepper flakes
1/2 Tsp Garlic Salt
1 Tsp Chopped Onion
1 Bay leaf
Spray crock pot with Pam or olive oil spray
Add in roast and top evenly with all seasonings
Add water if desired (I pour it around the roast, not directly on top)
Cook on low for 6-8 hours until the roast falls apart at the touch of the fork! (I cranked mine to high after 5 hours and it finished up in about 45 minutes because we were hungry lol!)
This is great to throw in before you leave for work, low and slow gets it done and its hard to over cook!
Notes: We like to add our Italian beef to sub or hoagie rolls then top with mozzarella cheese and broil in the oven until melted! and bubbly! This only takes a minute or 2 so don’t take your eyes off it once its under the broiler!
Its also great over mashed potatoes with some extra veggies on the side because #health.
WW SMART POINTS
In my app the beef came to 7sp on all plans, if you split it into 6 servings!
Hoagie rolls will add another 6 to 7sp.
Yields 6 servings of beef at 456 calories. (This does not include the hoagie roll or cheese, tragic, I know.)
